The hike in long product prices is clearly on the back of unprecedented surge of input materials. 1. Iron ore lumps - Up by more than 15% 2. Steel scrap – Up by up to 18.3% 3. Ship breaking – Up by up to 12.1% 4. Sponge iron – Up by up to 18.6% 5. Pencil ingot – Up by up to 18.2%

Thus it appears that price hike of INR 500 per tonne to INR 3000 per tonne for long products by Indian steel majors is imminent. Whereas they are likely to increase prices of flat products, propelled by increasing international prices, in January.
